Going to Ooratippra ... Part 1/2

On 17 April 2002 the kids who had come to school everyday were picked up from their camp to go to Ooratippra to help the Night Patrol men get some meat.

Ooratippra Station is 114km east of Ampilatwatja. A man and his family own Ooratippra. Young man go and work there when they have nothing todo in their own communities.

On the way to the school truck had to wait for the Night Patrol truck so that the kids looked for bush tucker while...

they found bush bananas...

and bush raisins.

When the kids got to the Ooratippra they had to wait until the men got the cattle into the yard. While they waited they had smoko and lunch. After the lunch they liked for more bush tucker.

They found bush coconuts.

The men got the cattle in the yard.

This is the gun one of the men used to shoot the cow.

One of the men cut the cow's throat so all the blood would run out.

The kids watched as the man cut the cow's throat.

The men pulled the cow out of the yards into the shade of a tree.

The cut a branch to help hold up the cow while they cut off the skin.

The cow's skin was cut right down the middle.

The men pulled the skin off.
